Hi! My name is Kenleigh Reese McCall. I am 8 months old and ready to make an impact in my first annual walk.
You see, I had an early start in life at 30 weeks and 1 lb 14 ozs. My Mommy and Daddy say I have the true Irish fighting spirit in me and they agree I definitely have had more Ups than Downs.
One exciting thing that happened to me this summer was my picture above was selected to appear on the MTV Plasma screen in Times Square-New York City at the 2009 NDSS Buddy Walk! It is a video presentation airing my Great Story public awareness campaign, which seeks to honor and celebrate the amazing stories of the 400,000 Americans with Down syndrome.
Please join my team-it is for a great "KAUSE" and you are guaranteed a rewarding and fun filled day! I know I am ready to get going-are you? Let's put our walking shoes on and raise awareness...
Mile High Down Syndrome Association (MHDSA) is a non-profit organization which serves families of children and adults with Down syndrome, and interested professionals in the Rocky Mountain region.
MHDSA was founded in 1981 by a small group of visionary parents who were determined not only to create a support system for individuals with Down syndrome and their families, but to ensure that their communities could participate in the journey to greater understanding and opportunity. MHDSA now directly serves over 1,300 families, and an additional 650 professionals in Colorado and the Rocky Mountain Region.
The Step Up for Down Syndrome Walk is the largest community awareness and fundraising event for MHDSA. Choose from the 1 mile lake loop, or the 2 mile route at the lovely and centrally located City Park in Denver. October is Down syndrome awareness month, and the Step Up for Down Syndrome Walk will serve as a spring board to let the community know who we are as well as raise funds for MHDSA's vital programs.
We walk to support our friends and family members with Down syndrome. Every step we take helps to carry out the mission of MHDSA which is to assure inclusion and enhance independence of people with Down syndrome. We envision a society where all members are valued for their uniqueness, respected for their contribution and assured the opportunity and choice to create their own path to fulfillment and success.
Won't you join us and support our efforts for making Colorado the best place to live for people with Down syndrome?
Can't join us? Register as a virtual walker or make a donation.
Thank you for your support!
